Christen Higgins Clougherty, Ph.D.
Fine Art and Humanities faculty, Savannah State University and Founder/Executive Director of Nobis Project, Inc., an educational non-profit organization that collaborates with and support educators in providing young people with an education that prepares them to become informed, active, and caring global citizens, both at home and abroad. With over 18 years of experience in the field of education, Clougherty works to enhance her own capacity and the capacity of educators to recognize, understand, and address the impact of race, ethnicity, culture, religion, gender, and socioeconomic status in their work both in and out of the classroom. Her honors include recognition as a National Emerging Scholar for K-12 Service-Learning Research (2008 and 2009) by the National Service-Learning Partnership. Clougherty completed her doctoral research on the synthesis of experiential education, service-learning, creative-process theory, and global citizenship education through the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom; Masters of Arts from Savannah College of Art and Design in Fiber Arts; undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County with an interdisciplinary major in non-profit business management; founder of Thundersmith Industries, Inc., a non-profit performances art company; former President and board member of the Friends of Oatland (FOO) of the Oatland Island Wildlife Center; founding board member of the Tybee Island Maritime Academy; and co-founder of the Arts Resource Collective of Savannah.
